My name is Alessio Sclocco.
I am Italian and live in Amsterdam (NL).
I have a MSc in Computer Science, and work as a PhD candidate at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, and as a scientific programmer at ASTRON, the Netherlands institute for radio astronomy.
My research area is parallel and high-performance computing.
28/10/2016 - Today I attended the NIRICT "GPGPU Systems: from hardware to programming and performance" workshop and presented the latest results of my work on auto-tuning on many-cores. The presentation, whose title is "Analyzing the Complexity of Auto-Tuning Many-Core Accelerators", can be found in the publications section of this website.
29/01/2016 - The journal "Astronomy and Computing" recently published my first astronomy paper. As usual, links to download the article are available in the publications section.
15/12/2015 - Today I presented my latest paper, "A Real-Time Radio Transient Pipeline for ARTS", at the GlobalSIP conference in Orlando, Florida. The slides of the presentation, and the preprint of the paper, are already available for download. The print version will follow soon.
01/09/2015 - In Munich (Germany) for the IEEE International Conference on eScience, where I presented a paper titled "Finding Pulsars in Real-Time". Paper and presentation have been added to my publication list.
01/03/2015 - I am currently on a year long break from my PhD and working as a scientific programmer for Astron, the Netherland institute for radio astronomy. I am involved in the design and implementation of ARTS, the Apertif Radio Transient System.
23/05/2014 - In Phoenix for IPDPS 2014. My presentation can be downloaded from the publications section.
01/04/2014 - Today I presented the last performance results of my pulsars searching pipeline at the Exascale Radio Astronomy Meeting of the American Astronomical Society. My presentation can be downloaded from the publications section.
06/03/2014 - Releasing the preprint version of my latest paper, whose title is "Auto-Tuning Dedispersion for Many-Core Accelerators"; this paper has been accepted for publication in the 28th International Parallel and Distributed Processing Symposium (IPDPS).
02/12/2013 - I've published a simple many-core matrix transpose implemented in OpenCL.
19/11/2013 - My profile as an external eScience engineer, for the Netherlands eScience center
20/09/2013 - Published the Dedispersion's source code.
16/06/2013 - Added to the publications section two recent presentations I gave on my parallel pulsar searching pipeline.
14/06/2013 - New version of the website. I have no need for something fancier than plain HTML (with some CSS).
02/02/2013 - Published the BeamFormer's source code.
19/09/2012 - In Stuttgart for "Facing the Multicore Challenge" 2012.
01/09/2012 - Beginning of my PhD at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.
21/05/2012 - In Shanghai for "International Parallel and Distributed Processing Symposium" 2012.
01/05/2011 - Starting as a researcher at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.
